This past September, Enola Holmes came to Netflix. The movie tells a story about the daughter of the infamous detective, Sherlock Holmes.
For those who love both mystery and comedy, Enola Holmes if for you.
The main character, Enola, is played by Milly Bobby Brown who is also known for her popular role as Eleven in the Netflix series, Stranger Things. Enola lives at home with her mother, who is played by Helen Bonham Carter.
The two spend their days together having fun and working on Enola’s education until one day her mother disappears. Upon her mother’s disappearance, Enola’s world is turned upside down, and she must rely on her brothers, Mycroft and Sherlock, to find her mother.
When Enola discovers that her brothers have no intention of helping her, she devises a plan to go out and find her mother on her own, which throws her into the real world.
As she begins to search for her mother, she meets a boy named Lord Tewkesbury, played by Louis Partridge, and they form a partnership.
Tewkesbury has a mystery of his own that he’ll need Enola’s help in solving. As the two work together to solve their mysteries, they begin to form a relationship.
Although the plot largely revolves around the disappearance of Enola’s mother, there was little explanation as to why she disappeared in first place. Going a little more in depth on the back story would help to tie up a lot of unanswered questions that viewers may have after watching the film.
Enola Holmes is set in the 19th century, which provided a refreshing alternative to the chaos of 2020. The costume and set designers did a great job of capturing the time period. Each costume and set was meticulously put together to showcase what London was like in that time period.
Enola Holmes will have anyone hooked from the very beginning. The actors each give a fantastic performance that only adds to the quality of the movie.
I highly recommend this movie to anyone who is interested in light-hearted mystery and romance.
