Heartfelt Eats: Valentine's Day Recipes to Celebrate Love in Your Life

by Eagle Staff Writer Paige Ordway and Editor Ethan Hoffman

Valentine's Day is notably known as a day to remind people that you love them, or just remotely like them. Either way, making Valentine's Day special doesn't have to be complicated. Making someone feel special can be as simple as making sweet treats for them to enjoy. Or if you would rather, enjoy your delicious creations all by yourself while watching "The Notebook."

Heart Shaped Cake

Cake Mix of Choice

Buttercream frosting (colored optional)

Valentine's Day sprinkles

NOTE: You'll need to purchase a heart-shaped cake tin for this treat!

Prepare the cake batter as instructed on the cake mix box and pour the cake mix into a 9” Heart Shaped Cake Tin once combined! If you are making homemade buttercream icing you can follow this recipe. If using premade icing, ice the tops and sides of the cake as thickly as your heart desires. Now it's time to DECORATE! For the border, place the remaining icing in a decorating bag with the 1M tip and pipe stars all over the top border of the cake. Lastly, sprinkle your Valentine sprinkles all over the cake and enjoy!

Red Velvet Truffles

It's Valentine’s Day, so of course you need some red on this special day! What better way to put some Valentine’s spirit into your day than a delicious red velvet truffle? (Courtesy Photo)

1 9x13 baked red velvet cake, crumbled, use your cake mix of choice!

1 16 oz container of cream cheese frosting

1 ½ bags of white chocolate melting wafers

1 cup of red candy melts

Valentine sprinkles

First, bake your cake as instructed on the cake box. Once your cake is baked and cooled, crumble the cake into a bunch of little crumb, then combine it with half of the container of cream cheese frosting, or as much as needed for the crumbs to stick together. Next, form 1 ½ inch cake balls from your mix. Place them onto a baking sheet and let freeze for 30 minutes. While the cake balls are cooling, melt your white chocolate wafers in 30-second increments in the microwave, stirring each time. Remove the cake balls and immediately begin to dip them in the white chocolate and place them on the cooking tray. Lastly, melt the red candy mix as included on the packaging and drizzle it over the cake balls as well as sprinkle your Valentine’s sprinkles!

Rice Krispie Cereal

Mini Marshmallows

Optional: Pink and White Chocolate melts

Make Rice Krispie treats according to the recipe on the back of the cereal box and place them in a tray or baking dish. Using a heart-shaped cookie cutter, cut out the treats into heart shapes. If you want to decorate them, melt the pink candy melts and dip half of the treat into the melted candy, and let it harden.  Finally, melt the white chocolate melts and put it in a ziplock bag. Cut a tiny hole into the bottom corner of the bag and drizzle chocolate topping over the treats.
