Eagles like me probably never thought they could get into anime. Personally I thought it was weird because my older brothers watched it. What could be so interesting about cartoon characters speaking in a language I couldn't even understand?
One day I was sitting down while one of them was watching it and decided to give anime a try. After listening to the storyline I realized, to my surprise, it was actually good.
Anime has a really bad reputation because people have always said rude things about it like "It's weird!" or "Who watches that stuff?", but I can attest that anime is "animazing."
I started off watching "Avatar: The Last Airbender" and it was such a good show. It had a little of everything in it. There was action, adventure, romance, drama, and it featured a great plot.
For beginner anime viewers, this is a really good one to start with because it's not long, it's a common and well received starter show, and it can appeal to all viewers.
After I finished watching "Avatar" I still wanted to watch "more serious" anime to see if I fully liked it so I ended up watching "Fairy Tail". Warning, after watching that, I was hooked. This was not the reaction I'd expected, though.
"Fairy Tail" is a longer tv show I used for both background noise and actual entertainment. Same as "Avatar," "Fairy Tail" really has everything; it’s fantasy, romantic, action-filled drama... if that's possible. The show follows a group of wizards in a guild as the main character Natsu Dragneel seeks his father who is a dragon. The group always ends up stronger physically and mentally through their adventures. I can’t tell you any spoilers but it will definitely keep you on your toes while you’re watching it.
"Dragon Ball" is an oldie but a goodie that I've been watching recently. It’s got everything the others have, as it can be argued that the creators of "Avatar" and "Fairy Tail" probably used "Dragon Ball" as a reference to find out what anime fans like.
"Dragon Ball" truly made a splash in the entertainment world when it came out and has honestly maintained its fame to this day. I've watched "Dragon Ball" off and on for the last 10 years. I'm sure everybody has heard something that has to do with "Dragon Ball"?
"Dragon Ball" isn't the only show in its series; there's four other shows that air as Goku, the main character, grows up. Creators also made a few movies that go along with the Dragon Ball series, sealing down its fate as a fan favorite.
This doesn't even cover a fourth of all that anime has to offer. There are so many shows to choose from. Just like normal tv, though, there's always going to be good anime and bad anime. Viewers just have to look for the right show to start off with. The ones I've dived into above I totally recommend.
Having trouble finding a certain anime? Check out Crunchyroll or Funimation, which in my opinion is the better option out of the two, then just go on from there. Who knows? It may be surprising.
