Colleen Sweeney is a freshman at FCHS. She juggles being involved in her church, Pre-AP classes, and her running her own embroidery shop. While taking on a lot of responsibility, there is more to Sweeney than what meets the eye.

Sweeney was loved by her teacher, Mrs. Clouser, when she took Pre-AP English her eighth grade year.

“Colleen is a hard-working young lady, who has a strong work ethic and gives 100% effort to any task she is assigned. Most importantly the respect and kindness she shows others helped create a positive school environment,” said Clouser.

Even though Sweeney does participate in extracurriculars including tennis, which she played last year and plans on doing this year, she prioritizes school.

“I try to put school before anything else. I prioritize my schoolwork and try not to slack, and I try to study and prepare,” Sweeney explained.

Sweeney also is a devout Christian who spends lots of time participating in activities at her church, Rocky Mount Baptist.

“As I've been able to get to know Colleen, I have realized some characteristics about her life," youth pastor Jacob Palma began. "Colleen is a person who is extremely creative, enjoys including others, a reliable student, and has a focus that is not derailed by others opinions. When called upon, she is ready to step up to the plate and give of her time and effort at Rocky Mount Baptist Church. As Colleen’s Youth Pastor, I am proud to have someone like her in our youth group. I believe she is on her way to conquer life and live to her greatest potential.”

Sweeney has participated in a form of ministry her church does, called the 5v5 Basketball Ministries.

“My older sister started the 5v5 ministries 2019, and we have it on Sundays at Mary Elizabeth Park. Anyone can come to it, and we usually have it year round depending on the weather. We play two or three basketball games and then we do snacks and devotionals,” Sweeney said.

Outside of church and school, Sweeney runs an embroidery shop. She sells embroidered on her instagram, @all.things.embroidered. She offers custom orders, along with keychains, hanging baskets, and embroidered masks.

“I like to embroider, and I have an embroidery shop on Instagram,” she added.

Sweeney’s family is a big inspiration for her in life.

“I’m inspired by my mom and dad, because they’re hardworking and put family first. They also taught me how to be a good Christian,” she explained.

While Colleen is only a freshman, she's already setting a good example for people at her church and school, and she still has three more years as an Eagle.
