Thanksgiving is a time that commonly brings people together around the table to share laughter, love, and good food. However, some can’t afford a nice dinner for their families. As a way to bring holiday cheer to the community, the senior class is holding a Thanksgiving Food Drive to benefit God’s Provision Food Pantry from November 9th through the 15th.

Eagles who want to participate in this food drive can give their donations to their first-period teacher. Any non-perishable foods are acceptable to donate, but more specifically the pantry is looking for foods closely related to Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, such as gravy, instant mashed potatoes, and boxed stuffing, to name a few.

All classes will receive points based on the size of their donations. The class with the most points will win a free breakfast from The Hub. There will be senior class officers in the lecture room on November 11th and 15th collecting all donations, tallying points, and later announcing the winning class.

While a free breakfast is an inspiration to participate, the senior class emphasized that the goal of this food drive isn’t to get a certain amount of donations; it’s to bring people together.

“We just want to help out the needy people in the community,” Alicia McGeorge, senior class co-sponsor, said.

“Food drives can be great ways to reach out to the community, it’s also a way for many students to give back to those who have offered them support during their school careers,” senior co-sponsor Prentice Sargeant explained.

Even after this food drive concludes, God’s Provision Food Pantry will always accept donations for people in need, so Eagles are encouraged to constantly keep them in mind this holiday season. Fresh foods like meats and produce cannot be accepted. Baby foods and formulas also cannot be taken, but anything else canned or boxed can be donated and is reportedly greatly appreciated.

God’s Provision Food Pantry is run by the Rocky Mount Church of God, located at 1360 North Main Street in Rocky Mount.
